The Haspels
John and Gwen Haspels are Presbyterian missionaries who have worked among the Suri people for about ten years. Gwen is a nurse and is in charge of the clinic for the Suri people. John is an evangelist and was born in a family of missionaries. They have been working under contract with the Ethiopian government to improve the living conditions in the southwestern part of Ethiopia. The building of roads, bridges and wells is only part of their mission to the region. The Haspels also work with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), for the purpose of meeting spiritual needs of the Suri.
Although not directly linked to the Bryants and Ulrike Beyer through a mission organization, the Haspels represent part of three pronged approach to the evangelization of the semi-nomadic Suri.
